School History

Algood School was established in 1892 as a primary school serving the town of Algood. In 1902 the school was moved to 288 East Main Street. The high school program was discontinued in 1966, and the school encompassed grades K-9 until 1997. From 1997 until the spring of 2001, the school served approximately 400 students in grades K-6.

In the fall of 2001, the new K-8 Algood School on Dry Valley Road was completed. However, as Mr. Richard Norton once said, "If you build it, they will come." The K-8 concept proved very popular with both students and parents, and soon the building was filled beyond capacity.

In the spring of 2008, construction began on a new elementary school to accommodate enrollment demand. Housed on the same campus, Algood Elementary opened in the fall of 2009 and serves grades K-4. The existing building was converted to a middle school at the same time, serving grades 5-8 while still maintaining a K-8 concept.
